Music

First of all, I think it is this section where I can explain the reason why I chose insanity as the topic of my blog. There is a fantastic violinist, singer, and song writer, who inspired me to dig deeper into the issue. She is Emilie Autumn, an artist of a completely new music style, which she calls "victoriandustrialism," because she mixes traditional Victorian music with electronical elements. The result is unique, sometimes strange, sometimes enchanting, and definitely not for everyone. Even though I'm a fan of her, I admit that her voice is not perfect, and not all of her songs captivate me from a musical point of view, but I admire her for her strength and creativity to use her illness (she has bipolar disorder) as a source of talent. Here, I would like to show just a few of her songs, to give a hint of what her music is like. Of course, you don't have to like her, but her lyrics are undoubtedly relevant to this blog. Furthermore, the second video explains why I post everything at 4 o'clock; supposedly, the inmates of a mental hospital wake up at this time of dawn, which of course might be just a legend, but I thought it could give a nice pattern to the blog.

None of the videos were made by me.

Another reason why I really love her is that she takes elements of classical literature, bits of stories, and writes amazing songs about them. For example, as you must have found out, the first song, Opheliac is based on Shakespeare's Hamlet. Other songs of her like this are: Rapunzel, Juliet, Shalott, 306 (about  306 bodies that were found in the river Seine during 6 years). She is also notable for writing in an ironic way about tragedic things; some of her fans call her "The Queen of Sarcasm." If you listen closely to the last song I posted, Marry Me, you will understand. She also wrote a biographical book about her experiences in the asylum, but I couldn't order it yet, because it was published in limited edition.

The second list of songs is collected from various artists and are of more popular music styles. I hope you like them.
